Papa Steely's Birthday!

My dad and I both have birthdays that are very close to Christmas. His is on the 23rd and mine is on the 30th. We celebrated his by eating a delicious home-cooked meal made by my mom (chicken curry, yum!) and then had a multi-flavored cheesecake. Kenneth and I got him a gift card to itunes... we downloaded a Clive Cussler book on his ipad.

Happy Birthday Dad!!!

Elgin Tree Farm

Kenneth and I made a short detour going home from Austin after Thanksgiving to Elgin Tree Farm and it was totally worth it! We were really excited about chopping down a tree, however we fell in love with Frazier Fur trees. Their Fraziers were flown in from North Carolina and therefore did not need to be chopped down :( We still had a blast picking out our favorite tree and bringing it home!

1 year anniversary :)

Kenneth and I celebrated our 1st anniversary on the 19th of December. He had planned the entire day out and it was full of surprises! We started off at the Houston Zoo and had a blast. The cats were definitely the best exhibit. The lions were even roaring :) The African exhibit was cool, we were able to get close enough to the giraffes that we could see their spit flying through the air (eww.)

We then went back to the church where we were married, Holy Rosary. The priest there was so nice and gave us a special anniversary blessing. After church we went to Nelore, a Brazilian steakhouse similar to Fogo de Chao but much more intimate. The food was delicious!
Kenneth said he had one more surprise up his sleeve, we were going to stay at Hotel Zaza for the night (the same hotel we stayed at the night of our wedding). We stayed in the concept suite Moulin Rouge. It was so awesome I had to take pictures! Everything in the room was decorated in deep reds and purples.

We were so excited to eat our cake that Kenneth had brought along with us, however, when he unwrapped it we noticed that the edges were covered in brown and green mold.... so we sadly decided not to eat it. Hopefully we still get points for letting it take up room in our freezer for a year.

The view from our room was of the main street turn-around. Lovely!

Thanksgiving at the Steely's and Passmore's

We are so lucky to have both of our families living in the same city. We get to spend the holidays with both and get two delicious meals out of the deal!

Roomies Reunion!

A few weekends ago I was lucky enough to go on a girls' getaway in Fredricksburg with my four college roommates. It was so much fun to catch up. We went shopping on the town's super cute main street and went wine tasting.

Kenneth tackles a turkey!

For our Friends and Fellowship bible study we wanted to have a Thanksgiving themed dinner, meaning cooking our first turkey. We marinated it in a beer brine and then cooked away! I think it turned out great!

Vintage Park Art Festival

On Saturday I got to have a mother-daughter day with my mom and I and Ashley, one of my best friends from college, and her mom. It was so much fun getting to catch up and hang out while perusing through the art/craft fair.

While we were there, my mom knew of a secret horse exhibit still in the making and we got to have a "behind the scene" look before they were all done. The horses are very similar to the traveling painted cow exhibit, only the horses all benefit NAM. I'm not sure when or where they will be displayed, but the ones that were already finished were so beautiful!
